It’s 1960 in rural Manitoba, and Oata has just discovered that her fiance, Yasch, has been stepping out with skinny Sadie Nickel. When a distraught Sadie turns up at Oata’s door, asking about a recipe rumoured to help a woman whose period is late, Oata must decide whether to help. In the process, Oata reassesses her situation and her own abundant assets. Does she really need pants with a man in them to run a farm?

Tatsea, set in Canada’s subarctic, received the McNally Robinson Book of the Year Award and the Margaret Laurence Award for Fiction. Renowned for the musicality of his dialect and dialogue, and his humor, Armin has served as writer-in-residence at the Saskatoon Public Library, Parkland Regional Library, and the University of Manitoba’s Centre for Creative Writing and Oral Culture.
