Christopher Morris is a playwright, director and actor and is the artistic director of the Toronto-based theatre company Human Cargo. His most recent play, The Ghosts of Mariupol, is inspired by actors who survived the 2022 Mariupol Theatre bombing. Created in Ukraine in collaboration with the Mariupol Theatre, it will premiere at Crow’s Theatre in April/2027. Other plays include The Runner (winner of 2019 Dora Awards for Outstanding New Play and Best Production) about an Orthodox-Jewish volunteer for the Israeli search-and-rescue organization ZAKA who faces a moral dilemma after saving a wounded Palestinian woman; tremblements, a French-language play inspired by a Canadian nurse working with Doctors without borders, which premiered at Montreal’s ESPACE GO; Our Beautiful Sons, The Road to Paradise (co-written with Jonathan Garfinkel); and Return: The Sarajevo Project (co-playwright, theatrefront, Dora Mavor Moore Award Nomination). Christopher is currently collaborating with Inuk theatre artist Miali Buscemi on Mother – an Annie Pootoogook Experience, a live-action/animated VR film about Inuk artist Annie Pootoogook. Christopher lives in Toronto with his partner Gillian Gallow and their daughter Eileen.
