Beyond Churchianity
Insights from Japan for a World-Changing Christianity
Floyd Howlett

About the Book
Floyd Howlett spent a lifetime working for peace, justice and new ways of being the church in the world. He spent thirty years working as an ecumenical partner of the United Church of Christ in Japan (under the auspices of the United Church of Canada) where he was director of the Northern Hokkaido Christian Centre working with church, community and farm groups.

Quotes
“Floyd tells his story with passion and integrity. He challenges us to remember and tell our own stories with a view to formulating a believable, responsive and transformative faith.”
—Very Rev. Bill Phipps, Former Moderator of the United Church of Canada

About the Author
Before going to Japan, Floyd was the minister on the Esterhazy Pastoral Parish in Saskatchewan. After returning to Canada in 1981, he spent six years on the Program Staff of the Prairie Christian Training Centre, an adult education facility of the United Church in Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan. Floyd’s dissatisfaction with church-centred Christianity led him to work, both in Japan and Canada, through innovative ways of living out the mandate of Jesus in society. Sadly, after a long battle with Non-Hodgekins Lymphoma, Floyd Howlett died at home on June 28, 2003.
